Update: We did it! Our new home in Champaign is secured and we'll be moving in a couple of months! Thank you all so much for your help in making this happen.
The good news: We were able to find a nice little 3 bedroom house for less than many of the apartments in the area! We'll have room for each of our offices, without sacrificing the dining room - AND a giant kitchen where we can both cook, as well as a fenced yard for grilling, relaxing, and eventually growing our own vegetables!
The bad news: While the place does have hookups, it does not come with a washer and dryer. There also are no blinds, meaning we need curtains, and we'll be in charge of lawn care. We currently live in an apt so that means we need to get EVERYthing for lawn care - mower, weed eater, hoses, sprinkler heads.
While we could pick these things up as we're able, holding off on a couch and bookshelves, we'd still be looking at probably a month of hand-washing clothes while other obligations are met first.
Any assistance in helping us get these necessary items quickly would be greatly appreciated! I've raised our goal to by $1500 to reflect the necessary items we need to get.
Original post:
Xero and Kathryn need to escape Colorado!
While we love this state and our friends and adventures here, we're unable to keep up with the rent increases. Our rent has gone up by over triple the amount of annual salary increases, and is threatening to go up even higher. We're already renting one of the cheapest apartments in town, and damn near the upper half of the state.
We simply cannot keep up.
We've found a lovely little town in Illinois where the rent is far more reasonable. Bonus: we already have friends in the area! But this year has been rough, financially, for us and we need some help to get there.
Beyond that, our couch is falling apart, two of our bookshelves are threatening to tumble over, and our remaining bookshelves are built in to the apt.
While we will be saving up as much as we can on our own, we can't make it in our own, and we are required to give a ridiculous four month notice of our intention to vacate the apartment. That means we must turn in notice by the end of March. Any help we can get in reaching out moving cost goal before then would be a huge weight off our shoulders.
Here's a breakdown of what we're looking at:
Moving van $1250
Gas $1000
Hotels $300
Deposit $800
Double rent $1000
Couch $700
Bookcases $500
Kitchen table $300
Desk $150
Total $6000
Thanks for reading this far, and even if you're unable to chip in, sharing helps too!
