The Quiet Mind Centre for accessible mental health support
The Quiet Mind Centre, established in 1984, offers therapy and counselling on a donation-only basis to those on low incomes. We have a handful of staff and dozens of volunteers who all share the same goal: providing accessible support to those in need.
Operating purely on donations, we are reliant on the generosity of others to keep this service going. Donations pay for our core costs including rent of the premises, IT systems, staff costs and utilities, amongst other smaller, essential expenses. Without this support we wouldn't be able to offer the help we do.
How we work:
Our clients come to the centre seeking help. On low incomes, they may have realised that private support often comes at too great a cost, particularly in the current climate. Clients are also referred to us via their GP, sometimes. All clients will have their individual needs assessed and we take care in matching them with an appropriate counsellor/therapist.
The centre has over 30 volunteer counsellors and therapists currently providing support to clients. Some of our counsellors are towards the end of their training and volunteer with us as part of their course placement. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, covering a wide range of therapeutic techniques. We are an LGBT+ supportive space and have disabled access for those who may need it. We also have neurodivergent staff and encourage an atmosphere in which people feel accepted and welcome.
