Welcome Corp

We are the Portland Project, a private sponsor group through Welcome Corps providing opportunities for communities to welcome refugees seeking freedom, safety and opportunity.

Mega arrived in mid-September from a refugee camp in northwest Tanzania. He has been busy learning English and the Portland public transportation system. He is bright, energetic and remarkably adept at navigating the first world everyday basics such as the grocery store and a seat belt despite no previous experiences. Mega is eager to find work so that he can help his family back in the refugee camp but his lack of English language skills is a significant barrier. To support him as he works to become independent, we ask for your assistance. In particular, we seek financial support to cover rent, utilities, groceries, cell phone, etc so that Mega can concentrate on learning English. Additionally, we would appreciate any time or experience you may have to guide Mega on his integration into Portland. Thank you for considering and for any way you can contribute to this endeavor.
