Poor and needy families in Indonesia

Indonesia specifically has a group of people who collect rubbish material from the bins. This is usually recycling material which can be exchanged for money. 1kg of recyling material is 20p (Rp. 4000).

These people are often very old, and frail, many of them are mothers and fathers with very young children. They can be seen with wheelbarrows, putting their children inside the barrow whilst they work to collect money. Their clothing is often ripped, stained and in very poor condition, including the children.

They are mostly seen at night when the rubbish bins are full. They do not beg and work very hard to make ends meet.

They often live on small streets in makeshift homes, made with sticks and fabric as a tent. Some of them may rent but mostly they will not be able to afford it.

The donation will be used to provide the following 'Sembako' (essential items):

They will also be given a cash donation.

In some circumstances, it may not be suitable to give food (as the individuals may not have access to cooking equipment, gas, hot water etc) in this case they will be given money to use at their discretion.

These people are eligible for Zakaah. They will often visit local mosques or homeless shelters for food.

This money will be distributed at a local Masjid where these people come to collect food donations.
