The Pizza Place Oven Fund

The love you have shown the Grizzard family by contributing to their needs continues to be inspiring! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to all who have given to this worthy cause! We've met our goal but will leave the fund open for the time being in hopes that any additional funds raised after covering the cost of the new oven will give Mrs. Grizzard an opportunity to tend to other repairs, needs or medical expenses they may have accrued since the accident. Yesterday, the double oven at The Pizza Place in Weatherford went out, a week following the business's reopening, after having closed doors for over two months following a tragic car accident where owner, Roger Grizzard, sadly did not survive.
Roger held many titles throughout his life; beloved husband, father, brother, paw paw, educator, pizza man, businessman, boss, coach, and serviceman, among many others. However, it seemed he was most well known for being the best friend that Weatherford, Texas ever had. Roger was always faithful to support his friends and community, no matter the cause. His daughter Holly wrote last week, "One of my very favorite life lessons that Dad taught me was to show up... When people are happy, show up and celebrate with them. When people are sick/sad/hurting/lonely, show up and love them (and bring food)... Thank you Weatherford, TX, for SHOWING UP at The Pizza Place Sunday night!... Thank you for filling the building with life again! Dad would be proud you're loving his family by showing up.”
Roger's son Tyler, is currently still in rehab after suffering multiple serious injuries during the accident in May. Roger's wife, Jeanine, as she began to heal from her own injuries, opened the doors of the Pizza Place once again last week to continue Roger's legacy of serving his community. The response to The Pizza Place's reopening was overwhelming and records were surely set for the amount of pizzas in and out of the ovens this last week. Our community has rallied around this family and business in a beautiful way.
Mrs. Grizzard wrote Monday evening:
"If you were in The Pizza Place in the last few days, you may have had an extra long wait or noticed a sign on the door about a malfunctioning oven. After having three different repair people look at the two pizza ovens, the verdict is in and they must be replaced. They have served us well for 44 years, but replacement ovens are ordered and on the way. The estimate for delivery is up to two weeks. So we are temporarily closed. Stay tuned for updates!"
The Grizzard family has generously served our community for decades, always giving their time and resources to love on people. With Tyler still in recovery and Mrs. Grizzard doing all she can to heal as well as get the Place back up and running, the cost of replacing pizza ovens was something no one expected, on top of their many medical expenses. I know many regular Pizza Place patrons would agree they've eaten enough pizza throughout the years to justify pitching in to help cover the cost of the replacement pizza ovens at the very least. And Weatherford, this is another opportunity for us to follow Roger's example, by helping offset this expense and any others they may incur! Any amount donated is greatly appreciated!
