The people of Southeast Nebraska have always enjoyed hosting Omaha and Lincoln visitors on day trips to area parks, historic sites like Arbor Lodge, and unique shopping opportunities from orchards to outlets. Recent sales tax figures demonstrate growth in commerce for many of these communities, and a boom in the number of museums and lodging options have made this area an even more desirable tourist destination. A healthy local economy and vibrant population of young professionals both suggest a strong future for communities in this important region of Nebraska.
Gary Di Silvestro asks your help in proving we can go home again. Home again to Southeast Nebraska.
Thirty years ago, Gary was a reporter, columnist, photo journalist and later editor of the daily newspaper in Nebraska City. Now, he is returning to champion a regional weekly newspaper to bring quality reportage and photography to readers and to better chronicle the rich history of this region. Everyone needs a champion, and in this case Gary Di Silvestro and his associates will champion more than a cause, this newspaper will portray a way of life. For Southeast Nebraska, this paper will celebrate the region’s rich past, diverse present and promising future.
Community journalism at its best makes it easy to get news into the paper, and hard to keep it out. The accomplishments and highlights in the daily lives of area students, residents and businesses will entertain and inspire readers; while a commitment to journalistic ethics and solid reporting that speaks truth to power will ensure a well-informed public essential to our democracy.
And here is the unique opportunity for you to be part of delivering that community journalism. Here is the opportunity to add “publisher” to your long list of life experiences.
