Yes, I'm running another Gofundme Book Sale. This is an ebook sale of a lot of things that are not available anywhere else.
This is THE ONES THAT GOT AWAY — scripts I have written, but which were never produced. I think they're good scripts, but all the weird circumstances of finance and approval and what a studio thinks it really needs have kept some great films and TV series from ever getting greenlit — including all of these. (Whether they're worthy or not will be something you can jduge for yourself, but I think several of them are my best.)
There are three things I need to tell you about this fundraiser.
First, if you have a limited budget and you feel that there are more worthy causes, please contribute there. I'm not desperate. Other people might be. It's more important to help them.
Second, most of the money raised from this effort will go toward helping my son and daughter-in-law with necessary preparations for the baby they are expecting. We have two rooms to remodel and we will need to buy a crib and a changing station. This will not be the only fundraiser I am planning this year.
Third, some of the funds raised here will go toward preparing limited edition hardcover/trade editions of these and other upcoming projects, which will be available only by special order, or at certain conventions.
And one more thing — there are several people I like to help dealing with difficult circumstances. I reserve the right to share some of the funds with them as well.
Feel free to contribute. The first perks will start going out at the beginning of February. I have all the files, but some of them still need to be converted and proof-read. Some of the scripts need to be scanned from hardcopies. Others need to be converted from their original formats and turned into pdf files. (And I'm still looking for bonus items!)
All of these scripts have interesting stories behind them and with each set, I will include a ReadMe.Txt file with some of the background.
One last note: Where any story has been written for a specific series, the copyright for those characters and that series still belongs to the copyright-holder, Disney, Warner Bros., and so on. My intention here is to show how one part of the development process works by showing the outlines and scripts that were submitted to the copyright holders.
I own the copyrights for the original work included here — THE MARTIAN CHILD, LEFTOVERS, NIGHTSIDERS, THE STAR WOLF, RUNNING DARK, and more.
Please respect the intellectual ownership of all these materials and do not share or distribute them anywhere. Thank you.
Now ... the good stuff.
1) Everyone who contributes will get a link to download a short little script called A SHAGGY DOG STORY. I wrote it as a spec submission for one of the iterations of TWILIGHT ZONE, but I think it would make a better animated cartoon. Plus an outline for an unproduced episode of LAND OF THE LOST called "The Littlest Sleestak." (Plus a little bonus.)
2) Everyone who contributes $7 or more will receive a link to download a set of unproduced outlines. The first of these is FANTASTIC JOURNEY, a now mostly-forgotten fantasy series. The show had promise, but it was cancelled so fast, it never had a chance — and my outline never got to script. Two other spec outlines are included here, one submitted to NORTHERN EXPOSURE and one for MURDER, SHE WROTE. And just for fun, the final draft script of my LOGAN'S RUN episode, "Man Out Of Time." (And of course, a little extra bonus too!)
3) Everyone who contributes $14 or more will receive all of the above, plus a link to download the BUCK ROGERS pack, a collection of unproduced scripts and outlines from the 70s and 80s, including the unproduced pilot script for the very first attempt to do a BUCK ROGERS series at Universal, an unproduced version of "Anniversary Dinner" for TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE, and my draft of "A Saucer of Loneliness" for TWILIGHT ZONE. (Plus a very unique and special bonus!)
4) Everyone who contributes $21 or more will receive a link to download a pdf of DEATHBEAST. It's the first feature script I ever wrote, back in the early 70s. It was for a low-budget dinosaur picture and I wrote it to be a chase that starts on page one that doesn't end until the last shot. But ... the director decided to write his own script instead. I've had some thoughts on how to rewrite this one, I just haven't done it yet. The novelization of this script was first published in 1977 and is still available as an ebook from BenBella Books. Also included is an outline for a rampaging alligator movie called LUCIFER. Plus, the scripts and development work I did for TARZAN at Filmation Studios. And very rare ... the outline and production bible for TRACKERS, a 1987 projected science-fiction series that was eventually novelized as UNDER THE EYE OF GOD and A COVENANT OF JUSTICE.
4) Everyone who contributes $28 or more will receive all of the above, plus a link to download THE TRIBBLES PACK. Here are all three scripts I've written about the tribbles. Obviously, the first one is THE TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES for the original series. The second one is MORE TRIBBLES, MORE TROUBLES for the animated series. The one that got away is ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE TRIBBLES. This was written for James Cawley's STAR TREK NEW VOYAGES fan film project, but because Cawley is no longer filming new episodes it will probably never get filmed. I think it turned out pretty good for a first draft.
5) Everyone who contributes $35 or more will receive all of the above, plus a link to download the BLOOD AND FIRE PACK. This will include the original first draft of the notorious unfilmed episode for STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION — not filmed because it included gay characters — plus the two hour version that was filmed for STAR TREK: THE NEW VOYAGES. As a bonus, you will also get a link to download the actual filmed New Voyages episode. (You can also find it on YouTube. We can't legally charge for it, but we can give it away.)
6) Everyone who contributes $42 or more will receive all of the above, plus a link to download a pdf of NIGHTSIDERS. It's a final draft shooting script of a comedy-horror vampire script. I have yet to finish the novelization of it. We got a lot of strange reactions to it. "Nobody does vampires" and "Everybody does vampires" and ... never mind, read it. It's good. I'm also including the first few chapters of the novelization I started. Plus, as a bonus, the most horrific vampire story I've ever written — or read. (Sex and violence!)
7) Everyone who contributes $49 or more will receive all of the above, plus a link to download a pdf of the screenplay I wrote for THE MARTIAN CHILD. They ignored it. I think my script is a lot more fun and a lot better. As a bonus, I will include a first draft of LEFTOVERS, another script I wrote about a single gay man adopting a little boy. (It needs some work, but it's got some fun stuff in it.)
8) Everyone who contributes $56 or more will receive all of the above, plus a link to download a pdf of the screenplay version of UNCLE DADDY WILL NOT BE INVITED, plus the video of the play version. (Those who want to invest in the production of the movie version should contact me privately. I'm on Facebook.)
9) Everyone who contributes $63 or more will receive all of the above, plus a link to download the STAR WOLF PACK. There are three scripts here. The first of these is a first draft of a feature script called STARHUNT. Because it was my first attempt at a feature script, it was terribly over-written, very detailed. The second script is a feature-length screenplay for a space series pilot called MILLENNIUM. It was written for Universal Studios — and then the WGAW went on strike. When we came back from the strike, they said that the episode was too dark. So I wrote a second script, which became the first STAR WOLF script. Later, when they decided not to move forward, I turned it into a novel. These are three different stories and you can see the evolution of the universe. But wait ... look at the next perk!
9) Everyone who contributes $72 or more will receive all of the above, plus a link to download the first four episode scripts for RUNNING DARK (we renamed the STAR WOLF TV series, polished the scripts, and took it out again) — the series presentation book and the series production bible. The series went through several iterations and rewrites. We've shopped it to various outlets under the name RUNNING DARK. We've always gotten great reactions, but ... the competition for space series has always been pretty aggressive. There are some weird stories about how it almost got bought — three times.
11) First Bonus! Anyone contributing $81 or more will receive all of the above, plus a link to download a pdf of the first four novels in THE WAR AGAINST THE CHTORR. Plus some preview chapters of A NEST FOR NIGHTMARES, Book Five!
12) Second Bonus! Anyone who contributes $102 or more can be "Tuckerized" in a future story. I have several big stories in the works. Named after Wilson "Bob" Tucker, Tuckerization is having a character named after you in a story or novel. I have several large pieces in the works, and I need more names. In addition, you will get previews of two new stories, both of which have Tuckerized characters, so you can see how it's done.
Thanks for contributing. Thanks for reading this far.
