The New GSP Sauna (Donations matched until KOR!!!)
Donation protected
The Great Saltpetre Preserve (GSP) is the home of Great Saltpetre Cave, a historic limestone cave once mined for saltpeter, during the War of 1812. The remainder of the grounds consist of a natural preserve consisting mostly of pasture and woodlands in an attempt to preserve a part of Kentucky's natural beauty for generations to come. We are open to current members of our four local grottos and host an annual caving event each summer for Karst-O-Rama in June.
Our sauna area has been improving a lot over the past year, and it's been fantastic to see so many people enjoying the new hot tub during events! The sauna area committee is growing and is dedicated to continually enhancing this space, and we are excited to share our plans for this year's proposed upgrade...
A brand new sauna!!!
While our current gazebo-style sauna has served us well, it's time for a replacement that better meets our needs and higher standards for construction on the property. The current sauna has suffered many floods, and despite our efforts to keep her well-repaired, the long-term solution is to build the sauna that we need for the coming decades.
The proposed sauna will offer several key advantages:
- Increased Capacity: Comfortably accommodating 14-20 people, ensuring everyone can enjoy the sauna without overcrowding.
- Enhanced Safety: Built to keep cavers safe and minimize the risk of burns, providing peace of mind for all users.
- Year-Round Use: Designed for enjoyment in all seasons, regardless of weather conditions (insulated and with an entryway airlock).
- Flood Resilience: Elevated construction on piers and robust design to withstand flooding, safeguarding this valuable addition.
This project aligns with the ongoing improvements across the preserve, creating a more safe, efficient, and robust structure that ultimately creates a more enjoyable experience for everyone. The GSP committee has approved the construction, and we are ready to get started. We've already begun planning and fundraising efforts to make this vision a reality. This sauna will be fully funded by donations, and that's where you come in. We project that this project will cost ~$5,000. A donor has agreed to match every dollar that we raise between now and the start of Karst-O-Rama 2025. If we can raise at least $2,500 by then, we will be right at our goals!
Please give generously, and every little bit helps. If you can only give $10, that's still $20 with the match, so please don't hesitate! If you would prefer to make a donation separate from this gofundme (cash, venmo, paypal, etc.) you can do that as well. Please contact Jared Embree for details, and your donations will still show up here as an offline donation. Every little bit helps.
You can also join in the fun and help with construction if you prefer. After all, it's your sauna area too, and every burden is lighter when we all lift together. We're confident this new sauna will be a fantastic addition to the preserve, and we appreciate your support in making it a reality!
