This is a fundraiser for the First Annual Natomas Big Gay Celebration! The Natomas Big Gay Celebration event will be a community gathering for EVERYONE... all ages and orientations, gay, bi, trans, straight.... The invite list is endless!
The requirement for admission is nothing more than to have unconditional love!
The Natomas Big Gay Celebration will feature vendor booths from local artists, businesses, community foundations, balloon animals / creations, a kids craft booth, drag queens, a DJ, cornhole games, frisbee toss, food trucks, a picnic area, a pride march, and much more! This will be a great opportunity for our community to come together, celebrate and meet new friends.
My husband, myself, and our two dogs have made Natomas our home for the past 7 years, and we consider our family fortunate enough to live in such a diverse and beautiful community! Yet, recently I found a flyer on our door, and assumed it was a real estate ad. It was not. That paper was a two sided homophobic rant of lies that leveraged the Bible as a weapon of hate and intolerance to scare our community. Community is a group of people living in the same place OR having a particular characteristic in common, and I know that the Natomas community has peace, acceptance, love and diversity in common.
Sacramento and the surrounding areas, year after year, have become more and more diverse, creating a great place for all to live and raise their families. Yet, it was not always so. When I came out at 16yrs old in 1999, while living in Folsom, I received bomb threats, my car vandalized, death threats spray painted on my garage, I was verbally threated and had items thrown at me in the halls, and I was called faggot and every other derogatory name you can imagine in front of school administrators with no repercussion for the bully. The hate was so great that my parents had to hire a bodyguard to take me to homecoming because threats were made against me if I showed up. As a result I will always stand up to hate, especially when it shows up at my front door! Our neighborhood is far too diverse and beautiful to let any type of hate take root here.
This June 23rd, 2019, will be the First Annual Natomas Big Gay Celebration at North Natomas Regional Park!! Our community has spoken through NextDoor, on FB, and in person, and they agree Natomas needs a Gay Pride Celebration! So please join us in making this celebration a reality! Council Member Angelique Ashby & Vice Mayor Steve Hansen have graciously agreed to assist myself and the Pride Committee in any way they can, but we also need the support of members of the community like you!
I can't pull this off alone which is why I have been assembling a very resourceful committee to back me up! The Natomas Big Gay Celebration needs you to share the FB event, share the GoFundMe and Like The Natomas Big Gay Celebration on Instagram to help spread the word and raise funds!! Then we will all be able to show up to celebrate equality, and send a clear message that Natomas won't stand for homophobia or hate of any kind!
