Every day, over 11,000 men, women, and children in San Diego are living in constant uncertainty of where they will find their next meal or bed.
The Mustard Seed Project is a 501(c)(3) grassroots nonprofit organization serving the homeless population of various cities in California and Oregon. Spanning six universities, including San Diego State University, the organizer of this GoFundMe, we partner with local shelters, churches, and businesses to bring together coalitions of people passionate about social change to strengthen our communities. Our mission, guided by a hand-up, not hand-out philosophy, is to connect unsheltered and low-income individuals to services and programs through grassroots organization, relationship-based outreach, and volunteer service navigation.
For individuals struggling with financial obstacles, physical and mental disabilities, substance use disorders, and personal hardships, The Mustard Seed project focuses on creating a community for people to thrive. We provide individuals struggling with homelessness access to basic needs, case management services, and the hope, comfort, and motivation needed to achieve their goals.
We not only provide basic daily necessities such as food, water, clothes, and hygiene products, but also connect unsheltered individuals to a multitude of other resources and organizations. Year-round we fundraise for our community relief fund, hosting fundraisers such as restaurant partnerships, book drives, benefit concerts, and more. All funds raised go towards our Volunteer Service Navigator program, where students have the opportunity to work one-on-one with individuals experiencing homelessness. Our Volunteer Service Navigators are chosen for their dedication and extensive experience with homelessness. Trained with the tools and best practices to connect homeless individuals to resources and programs, they create person-centered approaches to help our clients achieve their goals. With the community relief fund, our volunteer service navigators are able to provide individuals with transportation, identification documents, legal fees, connections to housing services, and so much more.
All money raised from this GoFundMe will pour directly into the community relief fund, helping the people who need it most.
