Together…We Have Been …Mulege Strong!!


As this year draws to a close, the Mulege Relief Fund  is stepping down. In the past year, we have seen the power of community fund raising and social media, such as the Mulege News FB page, in getting the word out when someone needs help and now there are more ways to get monetary help to them. If you see a cause you want to help, there are many ways to do that as well! We and everyone you have helped send a heartfelt Thank You!! and Muchas Gracias!! 

With your help we have accomplished so very much  since we first started this journey in April of 2020. The  Covid Pandemic was causing havoc all around the world and we personally saw it’s growing impact on the community of Heroica Mulege. First they closed the beaches during Easter.,. which had never happened before..then they restricted restaurants and bars..then Baja Sur entered a full Shutdown that lasted for months. That first year our focus was to get food to people who were suffering from no wages and no savings. We were blessed to have the help of Beverly and Linda from the Mulege Rotary Club and our resident “Angel” Ivonne Virutte from the Delagados’s Office. Together we were able to get the funds you gave delivered to those who desperately needed your help in the form of Food Vouchers and Pantry Bags of necessities. You provided food relief for over 3000 individuals and families. We were also able to help by having a Mask Campaign that made masks readily available to those who could not purchase them. With your help, needy families were able to have food on their tables and masks to protect them from Covid. As Baja slowly opened up, people were getting back to work and able to put food on their tables. At the beginning of the new year we were able to go in new directions….this is  
where they led…


The Mulege Rotary Club was able to make the Mulege Rotary Foodbank a much needed reality and it is operated out of Ivonne’s Viruette’s office at the Delagados. They currently supply food to those in need, as well as diapers for babies and adults. They accept donations of food, clothing, shoes and medical equipment such as wheelchairs and walkers. So in January of this year, 2021, the Mulege Relief Fund began to offer help to those who were faced with  unexpected emergencies such as a medical crisis, when financial help is needed for appointments with Specialists or transportation or to pay for an ambulance ride, this also encompassed  those unexpected events that just happen in life such as a burial or getting a domestic violence victim out of harm’s way. Since our last update you have helped a child with cancer of the eye receive needed treatment in Tijuana, another child who needed to see an otolaryngologist in La Paz, an infant with severe anemia see a Pediatrician Specialist in La Paz, several adults who are battling cancer, another suffering from a severe stroke who is hospitalized in La Paz and now his wife is very ill in the same hospital, a mother who desperately needed to see a Cardiologist in La Paz, a very ill young woman needing additional testing only available in La Paz. You were able to help two separate individuals when their plights were put out on social media and you gave with requests that it was for them…we got that done for you and for them. One is on the road to recovery from Covid and the other will be able to get necessary life saving heart surgery. You also helped people who were in need of oxygen and medication.
