On January 12, 2026, our family was torn apart. A hard-working father, a committed husband, and a son who never turned away from family responsibilities was detained by ICE, leaving his family heartbroken and in deep distress.
We are so fortunate to have many friends, extended family members, and community supporters who care deeply for our family and for Jai, and who have reached out asking how they can help. We created this page to share our family’s story and to provide a way for others to offer support during this incredibly difficult time.
Jai came to the United States as a refugee in 1989. His father died tragically in Laos, leaving his mother to care for seven young children. After his death, Jai’s mother gathered him and his siblings and endured immense hardship to bring them safely to the United States.
Jai is widely recognized as a devoted father of six beautiful children, a son, brother, friend, and proud grandfather. He is a community leader, business owner, and exceptionally hard worker who consistently puts his family and others before himself. He is always willing to lend a helping hand to others, leaving little time for himself. His weekends were spent serving his community and repairing homes and cars. In his younger years, he loved playing volleyball, forging strong bonds and lifelong friendships beyond his daily responsibilities.
Jai is also a beloved son who has lived with and cared for his elderly mother for many years. He makes sure she takes her medications, cooks for her, tends to her garden, and takes her wherever she needs to go. Even while detained, his greatest concern was his mother. This speaks volumes about the kind of person he is.
As our family faces this heartbreaking situation, your kindness and support will help cover legal expenses, travel costs, housing needs, and provide much-needed financial stability.
The thought of Jai’s children and family being unable to see or embrace him again is unbearable. His absence as the family’s primary provider places an overwhelming burden on his wife, and his sudden detention has already taken a devastating toll on his elderly mother’s fragile health. Permanent separation would cause severe and irreparable hardship for his mother and all who love him. We humbly ask for your prayers and support in bringing Jai home to his family.
We wholeheartedly thank you from the bottom of our hearts. May your generosity and monetary donations, whether big or small, be returned to you all tenfold.
With deepest gratitude,
