Hello, my name is Andrea and I'm one of Steph Moroz Gillies's best friends.

Her little family—including Joseph, Asher and new addition, Ben—have had a tough couple weeks.

On March 5, 2026, Asher Gillies (age 2) was diagnosed with three heart defects including one critical congenital heart defect: coarctation of the aorta. He will soon require surgery in Edmonton.

Then, Ben arrived on March 10 after a complicated birth with an emergency c-section, followed by ongoing postpartum health issues including postpartum pre-eclampsia. It was diagnosed on March 15 after an ambulance ride to Winnipeg Women's Hospital, where Steph stayed overnight.

The family wishes to prioritize rest and recovery as much as possible during this stressful time and hopes to hire a night doula from Birth Roots Doulas at a rate of $300/night (+ tax) for 10 or 11 sessions over a period of two weeks.

However, with pay cuts due to mat leave and Joseph needing several weeks of work leave for Asher's surgery, money is tight. Any amount that you are able to contribute will do wonders in helping mom rest up and heal, and the family gather much-needed strength for Asher's upcoming surgery.
