The Mongol Derby for Youth Mental Health

Donation protected
As a teenager, and again later as an adult, I faced my own struggles with mental health. Growing up in regional communities, support and understanding can sometimes feel far away, and those experiences have stayed with me throughout my life. They have also shaped the person I want to become.

I have made the decision to change my own life … physically, mentally, and emotionally. Part of that journey is choosing to take on challenges that push me far outside my comfort zone, not just for myself, but in the hope that it might inspire others, particularly young people, to believe that difficult things are possible.

If I can put myself through the wringer and come out stronger on the other side, then maybe someone else will see that nothing is too hard if you decide to try.

That journey has led me to set my sights on one of the toughest horse races in the world: the Mongol Derby, a 1,000 km endurance race across Mongolia. Preparing for an event like this takes years of training, resilience, and determination.

Rather than making it just a personal goal, I want the entire journey toward that start line to create something meaningful.

Along the way I will be completing endurance challenges and community fundraising events to support youth mental health through headspace, while also supporting horse welfare.

Funds raised through this campaign will contribute toward the costs of entering and preparing for the Mongol Derby, an event that also directly supports the nomadic communities of Mongolia who host the race. Initially 1/3 of donations go towards the journey, and 1/3 to each charity. After covering the costs required to undertake the challenge, 50% of the remaining funds will be donated to headspace, helping support youth mental health services across Australia, and 50% will be donated to an equine welfare charity, which will be confirmed as this project develops.

This is the beginning of a multi-year journey. Every challenge along the way (including the upcoming 176km walk to Geraldton) is about proving that change is possible, supporting important causes, and showing others that even the biggest goals start with a single step. I will continue to update this account with the latest challenges.
