Update on the Update!
Plan C: After a stressful summer trying desperately to align Weather, Boat(s) and Crews for various plans I’ve got an opportunity to swim up the coast of Michigan from Holland to Grand Haven this Friday (20th Sept), a distance of 20 miles.
It’s the same route I did last year only this time I’m aiming to beat the time I set last year of 10 hours and 6 minutes. It’s not quite the swim I had dreamed of and trained for but any swim is a good swim and 20 miles is 20 miles!
Look out for pictures and updates on tracker info shortly.
Thanks for all your support and patience!

August Update: after having to postpone the plan to swim from Wisconsin to Michigan 4 hours before we set sail for Wisconsin, due to high wind and waves in the night time leg of the swim, we haven’t managed to align the boat, medic and crew with Mother Nature. With strong Northerly and Easterly winds in the forecast for this week unfortunately we’ve now exhausted our back up dates.
So plan B for the www.greatbiglakeswim.com is to see how far I can swim, non-stop, in 24 hours in Lake Michigan. The new plan is to start from South Haven and finish in the Grand Haven area 24 hours later for a distance of around 45 miles. Hoping to get a weather window in the next week or two to make this happen. A very big thank you to all those who have donated thus far, I’ll keep you all updated on plans for the swim.
In attempting this swim, I’m raising money for the Mike Daley Swim Fund, a swim program to give under privileged 6-10 years olds the opportunity to strengthen their swimming skills through a structured swim program at the Holland Aquatic center.
I’ve been fortunate enough to have had excellent swimming teachers, coaches and mentors throughout my life who have taught me a lifelong love, appreciation and respect for water and I’d like to help give back to our community by helping Mike Daley get this program up and running to help strengthen and inspire the next generation of swimmers.
The non-stop Swim will take anywhere between 30-40 hours depending on the conditions in the Big Lake. I will be supported on this adventure by several friends and fellow swimmers plus a medic who will all be on hand to ensure his safety, provide support, encouragement, food and water throughout the swim.
