I’ve spent the past year building HEATHSTORY, an independent, nonprofit journalism project focused on telling the stories that matter, especially the ones too many want ignored.
No corporation behind it. No newsroom backing it. Just me, showing up every day, doing the work.
Now we’re at a turning point.
Independent journalism has value. And right now, it’s being tested.
That’s the foundation of HEATHSTORY and the reason this work continues every single day.
With the midterm approaching, there’s a real opportunity to take HEATHSTORY to the next level, to reach more people, push through the algorithm, and make sure these stories are actually seen.
But here’s the reality. Reach isn’t free anymore. Visibility isn’t guaranteed. If this work is going to grow and have an impact, it takes resources.
What this supports
Every dollar goes directly toward expanding HEATHSTORY’s reach, making sure this reporting is actually seen at a time when it matters most.
That means putting these stories in front of more people across Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and Substack so independent journalism doesn’t get buried by the algorithm at a time when the stories we’re covering about the erasing of history, attacks on diversity, and the direction of the country are too important to be ignored.
What this work looks like
Over the past year, HEATHSTORY has covered the Trump administration and the direction of the country every single day, breaking down policy decisions, exposing contradictions, and connecting today’s headlines to the history behind them.
This isn’t occasional commentary. It’s a daily, ongoing record of what’s happening right now.
Some of that work has reached millions of people. Other times, it hasn’t, and that’s part of the challenge.
HEATHSTORY has already produced a full slate of original episodes on YouTube, building a growing library of work that documents this moment and protects the history too many want erased. That’s on top of the daily reporting we’ve done on Facebook, where the algorithm has slowed our growth and distribution.
Recently, a new lawsuit filed against Meta alleges the company profited from fraudulent activity tied to hijacked accounts and failed to properly address the damage.
That matters here.
Because what happened to the JimHeathTV page, the disruption, the loss of reach, and the lack of response, didn’t happen in a vacuum. The effects are still being felt today.
Whether it’s $10 or $250, every contribution helps expand HEATHSTORY’s reach at a critical moment, and every supporter is part of this push.
Many of you have been with me for years, going back to when I stepped away from my corporate broadcasting career to come home and take care of my mom in the final years of her life.
That moment changed everything.
It led me to build HEATHSTORY as an independent journalism project focused on telling the stories that matter, especially at a time when truth, history, and accountability are under pressure.
Why this matters now
This isn’t just about growth. It’s about whether independent journalism like this can continue to exist and reach people when it matters most.
HEATHSTORY has been built piece by piece over the last year.
Today, it’s not just me, there’s a working nonprofit structure behind it, with a board committed to growing this into a sustainable, independent newsroom.
But growth only happens if the work can reach people.
With the midterm approaching, the window to expand that reach is right now.
I’ve taken this as far as I can on my own. If this work matters to you, this is the moment to step in.
Thank you for supporting independent journalism.
