What is it?
Our flagship program 'The Mentor Barber' is our primary formula; which offers a different approach to connecting and mentoring youth.
We use barbering/hairdressing as a way to engage with young people, giving us both credibility and respect in the communities we work in. We have been developing this formula since we began, both in children care homes and in the urban communities and it's proven to be a new approach to youth guidance. We are currently finalising the 'Mentor Hairdressing' service for young ladies.)
Who will benefit?
We think it's important to give back to the community and through our planned youth programs & workshops, our motivation is to inspire and empower youngsters to achieve at a higher level and to strive to be leaders and not followers, also how important it is to be critical thinkers when navigating through life.
'We are here to help change a negative mind-set to a positive one'.
Since doing this style of mentoring we've seen a big difference in the young people we've worked with, they have become a lot more focused & confident... 'They've even pulled their trousers up funnily enough!'. We've found this way of engaging to prove very effective, which is a success story in itself.
What the funds will be used for?
The majority of the funds will be spent on a neutral zoned premises, given the current knife crime problem we propose to run an appointment based confidential session to maximise the safety of all our clients.
The remainder of the funding will be used to obtain barbering equipment such as barber chairs, clippers, promotional material and a basic media kit.
What the support will mean to us!
As the founding members of this community organisation we understand the great importance of the correct guidance and mentoring during adolescence. We feel that there is a generation that has grown up without little or no guidance resulting in subsequent senseless violence and poor decision making ending with very negative long term implications.
For us as people it means more than the world to help put a young person on the right track in life to succeed!
