50,000 Lives. One Nurse. One Bed. No Clinic.
When a mother gave birth in Makonka last year, she did it alone.
There was a lone unequipped nurse in the room. No clean water. No electricity. No bed.
Just her body. The concrete floor. And the prayer that her baby would cry.
This isn’t fiction. This is every day in Makonka — a rural corner of Zambia where over 50,000 people live without a functioning health clinic.
This is Zambia’s forgotten frontline.
If someone is injured in the night, they walk for hours — often carrying their loved one on their back.
If labour begins under moonlight, the outcome is left to chance.
If a baby struggles to breathe, there’s no oxygen. No medicine. No help.
Today, the only health post in Makonka has: One nurse. One broken bed. No electricity. No running water aside from a cattle borehole. No medicine or supplies
It is a shell. But it could be a sanctuary.
They tried to fix it themselves. Since 2007, the community has done everything in their power to finish their clinic.
They dug the latrines. They built the walls. They raised what they could.
But year after year, they were left behind. No budget. No recognition. No future.
Until now.
Who We Are:
I’m Sam Cooling, founder of The Euroza Foundation - a UK NGO co-founded in 2023, I'm an experienced development consultant, LSE alumni and financial journalist.
When I saw Makonka, I knew this wasn’t just a health crisis — this was a moral emergency.
So we made a promise.
We will finish what they started. And we’ll do it with your help.
What We’re Building — Together:
✅ A fully equipped rural health centre, certified by the Zambian Ministry of Health
✅ A maternity annex and mother shelter
✅ A pediatric ward to save young lives
✅ Solar power and a water pump from the borehole
✅ A new sanitation block and medical waste incinerator
✅ Staff housing to attract doctors and midwives
✅ Proper medical beds, medicine, and surgical supplies
This will serve 50,000 people, every single day — and it will cost just £100,000.
How You Can Help:
$10 = Gloves or clean gauze for a wound
$50 = A safe birthing kit for an expectant mother
$100 = A hospital-grade bed
$1,000 = Fit-out for a delivery room
$5,000 = A Converted Rural Ambulance
$10,000 = Name the maternity ward after you or someone you love
What Makes This Different:
We’ve already secured land, community support, and local planning.
The clinic will be fully handed to the Ministry of Health for sustainable operation.
100% of funds raised go toward the build — no admin salaries.
We will publish every step, every cost, and every photo of progress.
You can’t fix everything. But you can fix this.
We’ll send updates from the build.
We’ll film the grand opening.
We’ll read your messages out loud to the community in Makonka.
You don’t need to change the whole world.
But you can change this one village — and save thousands of lives.
