John 37 and Kansas 34 have 4 children 4-14. John was infected by a rare bacterial infection 6 wks ago passed on by a dog or cat called Capnocytphagao. Sepsis, kidney failure and gangrene are typical side effects. Unfortunately, John's kidneys have both shut down and was afflicted by severe gangrene. On Saturday they removed both his legs below the knees, 10 finger , part of his nose.

John and family have a hard road ahead of them. John worked for a landscaper who sent his last paycheque a few weeks ago and that's about it. Kansas is a stay at home mom . The eldest daughter who is 14 is starts Grade 9 in September. They are now living off Kansas' ODSP benefits and had to move into John's parents basement with the four children.

Kansas rides the bus and train every day from their home in Galt to Kitchener Hospital to see John. She is ridden by guilt that she consented to the amputations which she knows saved his life. She is grief stricken for her husband who does not know full extent of his condition and what that means for him and his family in the future.

Fortunaly, John is now out of a coma and once he is off ventilation he will move to a rehab facility which Kansas hopes will be local so she can take the bus and visit him. Their basement apartment is not wheel chair accessible and social services has shut down her request for emergency housing that is suitable.

John and Kansas lived a simple life and got by before this life altering event with close friends and family but they and their community doe not have the means to withstand the John 37 and Kansas 34 have 4 children 4-14.
