The Point Lookout Yacht Club (PLYC) holds an annual raffle fundraiser to benefit the Long Island Toy Lending Center for Children with Disabilities (L.I.T.L.C.). The event is held during the summer at The Buoy Bar in Point Lookout. This year because of the COVID-19 pandemic PLYC has been forced to find another way of supporting this essential service. Please join us by contributing to our GoFundMe page and make this year’s fundraising event as successful as our past live raffle events.

The Long Island Toy Lending Center for Children with Disabilities (L.I.T.L.C)
is a resource center which allows children with disabilities and their families to have fun and learn while providing the family with a support system.  L.I.T.L.C is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit agency founded in 1986 that provides a unique learning and resource environment teaching children through play and counsels parents on using play to help their child.  The Long Island Toy Lending Center focuses on the child’s ability, not on the disability and helps families see how their special child is like other children and that play is key to their development. The children and their family select specially adapted toys that can be borrowed monthly. It is these toys that are essential to their program that require an extensive financial budget each year. The Center is partially funded through a New York State grant from the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities and private foundations. The Center relies on fund raising events and people like you to cover the cost of running the program.

The Director, Colleen Moseman sees children with any kind of disability, from the mildly impaired to the severely impaired. The children range in age from birth to 15 years of age.

Presently the Center can serve 40 families from Long Island. Centers are located in Farmingdale Public Library serving centrally located families on Long Island and at the Town of Hempstead East Marina, 1501 Lido. Blvd. in Point Lookout.

The Toy Center is re-imagining its monthly services and practices this summer to provide a safe and fun place for parents to bring their children. The Center is resuming toy lending services to individual families following guidelines based on recommendations by the CDC and NYS Dept. of Health. Children with special needs are dependent upon the stimulation of a school setting and the specialists who provide therapeutic care. Many of the children are unable to attend summer school or day programs. The Center hopes to fill the loss of interaction by providing families with frequent visits for toys and materials to enhance the experience of providing a learning environment in their homes.  Parents welcome the relief of having a fun setting to drive to instead of circling the “pencil” at Jones Beach daily.  It has been a long 4 months for all!
