The little Bull Terrier who just needs someone to care...
Tax deductible
Torro is an 8 year old Bull Terrier. He's the sweetest boy who has had a very stressful time lately.
A good samaritan named Carley was working out at Title Boxing in Katy, TX very early in the morning and saw Torro. His nose was pressed against the glass as he just stared into the gym. Sometime later, as she was getting ready to leave she noticed he was still there... just waiting. Being the awesome human being that she is, Carley took him home to try and set about finding his owner. She reached out to us for some help.
The search has been quite extensive and complicated. Initially there was a post made through PawBoost where he was briefly reported as being "lost." It stated that he had gotten away after a bath and that he took 3 heart medications. We immediately reached out to report that Torro had been found but there was no response and the "lost" posting had been removed.
After several days and no response Torro was seen at our vet where it was found that he is in Afib (atrial fibrillation) which is an arrhythmia, or abnormal heartbeat. We were told that he needed to see a cardiologist asap. We called around to various vets and found that Torro is a patient at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston. They would not give us any information because we are not the owners listed on file. They wouldn't even give us the medications that he was taking but he is on three medications.
We had no other choice but to have Torro be seen through the ER department at Gulf Coast. He has not received his medication in over a week and his heart was beating too fast. We had to put down a $258 deposit just to be seen. We explained the situation and they took him back to do an emergency consult, check his Afib and do a basic ECG. Torro's heart rate was 256. They contacted the cardiology team that has seen Torro in previous visits. We learned that Torro has valve dysplasia and heart arrhythmia issues and has been seen at GCVS for several years. His "owner" had stayed on top of everything and had him at every follow up appointment and that his last appointment was Feb. 6th.
GCVS called the "owner" and left messages at the numbers on file. Meanwhile Torro still needs care. They wanted to do a Cardiology consult with the dr. who has been treating him as well as a more in-depth ECG and bloodwork. With everything total we are looking at $1500, but that does not include the medication that he will need.
We had hoped that the "owner" would come forward as clearly they had been taking good care of Torro for quite some time. Sadly, that is not the case. The "owner" called Gulf Coast and said that Torro got out while they were moving out-of-town and that they no longer want Torro and cannot afford him anymore. This is extremely disappointing and very sad news. I personally don't believe any of this. I believe the owner dumped Torro and what's even worse, dumped him knowing that he needed critical heart medications daily.
We now have a very sweet Bull Terrier with heart problems whose owner has completely turned their backs on him. We aren't sure what to do, but right now we need to get him stabilized and keep him safe. His amazing finders are fostering him while we navigate all of this.
Here is a copy of the estimates from GCVS:
We are going to need help with this sweet boy. Any amount donated will be greatly appreciated. Poor Torro deserves better than what he's gotten.
Thank you for your support.
