The Lido Theatre Est 1929

The Lido is such an important historical property which deserves to be preserved and get back to serving it’s community.

The Lido Theatre in The Pas, Manitoba, Canada is one of the longest running Atmospheric Theatres in the World! Let’s Bring it back to life serving its community just as it was always meant to.

We’ll work together and bring back the Lido better than ever! We will still, of course, have movies and we will add other fun events to this awesome venue. The legendary Lido Popcorn will remain just as founder Irish Rivalin would have wanted. The not-for-profit group NorCan Arts & Heritage Inc is raising funds through GoFundMe, Lido Merchandise and other on and off-site sales.  Adopt-A-Seat Sponsorships are in our future. Corporate Sponsorships will be available. Grants Are being applied for.

In no particular order: Build the Team, Open for Lido Popcorn, Private event rentals, Host a live stage event, Open for movies, Bring Back Matinees, Mommy And Me Showings, Sensory Friendly Showings, Christmas Events - Free Community Matinee’s with Santa, New Movies and Classics Film, On Screen Gaming, Live Speaking Events, Northern Film Festival Content, Winnipeg Aboriginal Film Festival Content,  Toronto International Film Festival Selections, Northern Music Events, Concerts, NEW SEATS and  so much more! The list is quite possibly endless. Over the years the Lido has hosted countless community events and live performances form choirs to talent shows to headliners like Kick Axe. Not to mention the number of first dates, first movies, and great memories for the thousands of patrons who have passed through her doors.

The most important thing we need to do is raise funds and support. We are presently taking applications for volunteers and interns and we will be looking within this group for the first paid positions. Presently volunteers receive free popcorn and use of the facility as a reward for their contribution to this project. Thank you for your consideration and contribution in which ever way you choose to support, even if it s just a like or share of this campaign, we appreciate you!

About The Lido

The Lido Theatre was founded by 11 partners including Irish Rivalin back in 1928 and constructed and opened sometime in late 1929 / early 1930. It was the first movie theatre in western Canada built specifically for "talkies" and opened with much fan fare from the Canadian press and the communities of the north. The architecture was designed by celebrated architect Max Z. Blankstein who was the first registered jewish architect in Canada. Remaining under the care of the same family for four generations the Lido is one of the most unique examples of longevity in Canada. With your help and this shift to a community focused and eventually community owned space we can all help ensure that the Lido will remain to bring together people for generations to come.
