THE JUST BUTTERFLY IT PROJECT

Building a happy and connected community one butterfly at a time

Butterflies are deep and powerful representations of life.  Around the world, people view the butterfly as representing endurance, change, hope, and life.  In their simple beauty, they make people feel happy; an idea that is being drawn upon in the street art in the inner north.

As a local business owner I want to bring more butterflies to Thornbury to make people happy and to create a strong community connected by shared values.

I am currently seeking to raise $3000+ to fund the painting of graffiti protected butterfly murals on both sides of the lane way between Raleigh and Gooch Streets, Thornbury from Just Believe Fit studio down to the Raleigh Street entrance. Darebin Council is partnering with us on the project and will subsidise any costs not covered by our fundraising efforts.

The project will entail undercoating and base painting the wooden fences and gates on either side of the lane way light blue and white before the butterflies can be added and graffiti protection at the end of the project.

If we can raise the funds by 14 December  we can have the mural completed by Xmas

Aims of the project:

To continue to make the laneway between Raleigh and Gooch St a vibrant beautiful thoroughfare of which residents and local businesses can feel proud.
To discourage illegal graffiti and tagging by commissioning a professional street artist to install graffiti protected murals on both sides of the lane way
To raise the public profile of the lane way so that locals feel safe using it as a thoroughfare at all times of the day or night
To bring colour and positive energy to the area close to the High St shopping strip.
To provide employment, experience and an opportunity for a local artist to showcase his/her work

We hope that you can envisage the joy and pride of place that this project will bring to locals who use the lane way as a thoroughfare to surrounding shops and businesses.

We would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri people who are the Traditional Custodians of this Land. We would also like to pay respect to the Elders both past and present of the Kulin Nation and extend that respect to other Indigenous Australians present.
