In December of 2021, our son got diagnosed with severe to profound bilateral hearing loss. Due to his hearing loss, Josiah has speech and language delays. We live in the beautiful state of Hawaii, however, there are very limited resources available for Deaf/Hard of Hearing children. After scouring the internet for information on how we could better help our son, I just felt overwhelmed with information after each effort. Josiah was given hearing aids, however, it wasn’t enough for him.

Then, in September of 2022, we learned of a conference called Listen to Me (LTM) Hawai’i. In connection with Stanford, it is a conference held yearly for kids and their families who are deaf or hard of hearing in California. We were one of the first families to attend LTM Hawaii (https://bakerinstituteforchildren.org/listentome/hawaii/). We were blessed by the amount of information, resources and support available from LTM. Since then, Josiah’s speech and language has grown and he is scheduled for Cochlear Implant surgery at the end of this month.

I’ve started this GO FUND ME account to raise money for lodging expenses for this year’s conference in November. The conference is 3 days long. It will be held on the Oahu, where we are located, however, the commute to and from the conference is about 1 hour. We are a singular income household, which means budgeting is tight. The funds will also allow for time off for our entire family to glean from the fruits of this conference, and it will also allow for us to pour into new families attending the conference.
