The James Fedorko Fundraiser

Hello friends and family. I made this fundraiser to help support the lifetime of medical bills. Here's James' story to learn more:

James Robert Fedorko graced the world with his presence on June 25, 2021 at 12:21pm. At that moment is when his fight life began. After days of several collapsed lungs, James had a peritoneal dialysis catheter placed at five days old. Unfortunately, it perforated his bowel and had to be removed. James miraculously peed for three weeks, buying us enough time to have him gain some healthy weight to be stronger and bigger for a hemodialysis port. James had surgery for his first hemodialysis catheter on July 26, 2021 and began CKRT (Continuous Kidney Replacement Therapy) the same day to save his life. Throughout this time, James had many infections in his body. James had another peritoneal dialysis catheter placed in September of 2021 as soon as the infections let up. He was able to come home in November 2021.

Fast forward to July 20th, 2022, after a busy day of appointments, we arrive home to find that James has redness on his skin where his PD catheter is, which is a sign of infection. We took him to the ER and had his PD fluid tested, blood cultured and ultrasound of his stomach. He was given antibiotics upon admission. The redness worsened and an abscess formed near the end of his catheter, which quickly escalated into a game plan to remove the catheter, place a hemodialysis line and PICC line. James had surgery on July 25th and began CKRT for the second time on July 26th, the same day as his one-year anniversary of starting his dialysis journey. James can’t do traditional hemodialysis for various reasons. He doesn’t urinate and doesn’t have kidneys so his body can’t naturally clear waste, which requires him to have some sort of dialysis daily. This is primarily the reason we are in the PICU. James will, unfortunately, have to be hospitalized until he is healed enough to get a new PD catheter line placed and up and running. It is likely that it will be another 4-6 weeks until they give consideration to placing a new PD catheter, resulting in a long hospital stay.
