The Jack Ashley Mural Appeal
Donation protected
We are The Philanthropists, based in Halton in the Liverpool City Region.
We are 7 creative/ community focused on supporting Social Change, Culture, Heritage and Environment.
This first Appeal is to raise the remainder of our target of £5k for a large mural to Jack Ashley, Baron of Stoke. Born in Wellington Street in Widnes, Jack became engaged in local politics as he supported other residents to stand up against terrible housing conditions. He achieved many things and worked a number of jobs from chemical industry manual work, to broadcasting for the BBC and eventually an MP then Lord.
He was the first deaf MP in the house of Commons and worked tirelessly to support Disability Rights. He was also the first MP to use the term Domestic Violence in parliament.
We remember him with Ashley Way and Ashley School but we are forgetting his aspirational story.
We want to honour him and raise the aspirations of residents today who can go on to achieve as he did, regardless of their start.
We are currently in discussions about the location but we need your help.
We have £2k committed from the Community Empowerment Fund but can only unlock this if we raised the remaining £3k. We are looking at other grants and are hosting a serious of events to raise funds, including An Audience with Pete Waterman on Wed 7th May 7pm at The Studio Widnes, WA8 7SQ.
