The Hope Floats Project was founded in May 2021 by Alvin Charles, having experienced homelessness himself in his early teens he always knew he wanted to help those in a similar situation.
He has worked in the charitable sector since 2005, fundraising for charities such as; Cancer Research, Amnesty International, British Red Cross, Oxfam, National Deaf Children Society, Scope, National Autistic Society, St Mungos, Centre Point, Samaritans and Crisis to name a few.
Alvin felt passionate that there was a clear link between homelessness and mental health, and wanted to find a solution. He had an inspirational idea to use the network of waterways in the UK to tackle people having nowhere to live and thought why not use canal boats.
With the use of canal boats he could provide affordable accommodation with support to those that where homeless in London and throughout the UK.
Alvin called on his family and friends who supported the cause to create a video and website to begin this journey.
The Hope Floats Project will always be in debited to their initial supporters, that gave the cause love and encouragement.
In January 2023 Alvin recruited his first three directors; Lynette Charles who works in an executive role in the mental health field, as the Strategic Partnership Director.
Vincent Rhoden who has worked in finance and accounting as the Finance Director. Lastly,
Shannon Caesar as the Consultant Creative Director.
The directors then developed The Hope Floats Project from idea to a registered Non-profit.
In April 2023 The Hope Floats Project C.I.C became a community interest company, set up specifically to address the issue of homelessness by providing accommodation and support to those that are homeless initially in London then an expansion across the UK.
OUR VISION
To end homelessness in the UK, we believe that no one should be homeless
OUR MISSION
To provide housing and support to the homeless, giving people a sense of hope and a home.
In order to succeed in our mission we will work closely with the homeless and discover what their needs are.
We will advocate for the voiceless by addressing what is missing from current law, whilst working on creating changes for a better future.
We will follow government changes to housing policies that affect the homeless, campaigning, influencing and advocating where necessary for lasting change.
