Hello, my name is Zoya, I currently live in Los Angeles, California, but, I'm originally from Florida and Jamaica will always be home. I’m putting this GoFundMe together to help my family in Jamaica who’ve been deeply affected by Hurricane Melissa.
Hurricane Melissa was a Category 5 storm that has left many Jamaicans without shelter, food, essentials, and their livelihoods. My friends, my family, and my community are facing the unimaginable task of rebuilding from the destruction the hurricane has left. Among those affected is my grandma, other members of our family, and so many others.
My grandma’s home, the heart and soul of our family, was also severely damaged. The roof has been stripped, leaving a weak foundation, and the water damage has ruined the electricity and furniture, making the house unlivable for her until repairs can be made. My grandma raised me when I was younger and cared for countless children who weren’t even her own. She’s always opened her home to friends, family, and even strangers, feeding everyone who walked through her door and making them feel loved.
That house isn’t just a building; it’s where I took my first steps, learned how to cook an egg, picked fruits from the trees, saw my cousin sneak in a boy, learned to ride my bike, chased cows out of the front yard with my cousins, and shared countless Sunday dinners after church surrounded by laughter and love. It’s a place that holds generations of memories and warmth.
Any amount you give will go directly toward helping my family rebuild, starting with getting roofs over their heads, restoring electricity, and replacing damaged furniture so they can live safely again.
Thank you so much for reading, sharing, and donating. Every bit helps us get closer to home again.
My mother, Conzitar, has been added as the Beneficiary as she's the person who will be paying for the repairs.
