Hello Friends and Family,
Have you ever had a nurse go above and beyond, someone who has cared for a beloved family member as if they were their own? Id’ like to tell you a story about a nurse that has gone above and beyond for the last 12 years. Sarah Harris was 14 when she logged on to Runescape to play her favorite computer game. While playing, Sarah met 16-year-old Kieren living in England. They became fast friends and kept in touch for many years. In 2009 their relationship blossomed from friendship to love, and for Sarah’s 21st birthday Kieren came to the US for a visit and proposed. They were married on September 25, 2010. One year later sweet Amelia was born, and they moved to Wenatchee for their family to continue to grow with Liam arriving in 2019. Sarah works as a nurse at Confluence Health and Kieren continued to grow his dream business in graphic design as well as working part time at PetSmart and Office Depot. You may even recognize him as PetSmart’s Santa.
In 2009 Sarah and Kieren applied for a K-1 fiancé visa; this allowed Kieren to come and get married to start their life together in the US. In 2012 they applied for his permanent residency (green card) that is required prior to applying for citizenship. Kieren was granted a 10-year permeant residency in 2012. However, at the error of the government, he was issued the incorrect card duration and should have been issued a 2-year residency. Fast forward 10 years, Sarah and Kieren went to apply for his citizenship costing $800.00 and was notified of this error. They were told to rectify this government error, they needed to file the I751 form and fees adding up to an additional $800.00. However, if his current green card expires before the government awards citizenship, he will also need to pay the renewal fee for the green card $900.00 so that his citizenship can finish being processed. On all immigration application paperwork, it is noted, these fees are “non-refundable regardless of whether the US government approves or rejects the application”.
I know what you are thinking: this is so not fair; she should get an attorney. Sarah did, but the starting cost begins at $3,500 for the attorneys to write a letter on Kieren’s behalf and give mild verbal guidance with no guarantee of resolution.
Our reason for starting this GoFundMe is to ask for financial help and to also help a nurse; Sarah has always taken care of others, now it is our turn to take care of her and help her family.
PS, we are asking for $15,000 in anticipated court costs and fees, however per the family’s request, whatever is not used will be donated to local Wenatchee area schools.
