My name is Joce and I live in the peace and safety of Canberra, Australia.

I met Reham Hamdan through my friend Emma and a lovely mum in the US called Kelsey.

Reham and Firas are in the impossible situation of parenting in a war zone. Their strength and love for their family leave me in awe and I know it is purely by chance that my family was born in safety while theirs is in constant danger.

Just like my family, Reham and her husband worked hard to create a good life together. Firas owned a supermarket. He proudly provided for Reham and their daughter Sila, who is now nearly 5. They lived in a home with all the comforts of life and aspired to grow and raise their family. Then the IDF bombing began. Their home and the supermarket was destroyed and they fled to a camp for displaced people in Al-Mawasi, Rafah, with bombings visible from their tent and the ever-present sound of drones and gunfire.

Life very suddenly became a day-by-day proposition.

Sidra was born during the genocide, in an overcrowded and understaffed hospital on the brink of collapse from taking care of burn victims, bomb victims and all those who suffered the most horrendous injuries.

For the past two years, the family has had no income and relies on donations and aid in order to eat.

Reham also takes care of her mother, Taghreed, who suffers from high blood pressure and is without her medications.

Sidra and Sila are malnourished, and earlier this year Sila was shot in the back while playing in her tent. It was the family's lowest point. With no functioning hospitals left, Sila was raced to a makeshift medical tent and the bullet was removed without anaesthetic. It is a miracle she survived.

Sila longs to live under a watertight roof, free from the extremes of cold and heat, with chicken and chocolate to eat and no chance of a sniper's bullet hitting her. Sidra has never known peace in her short life.

The destruction of Gaza has been absolute. Reham holds onto hope that we, the people who recognise the reality of this genocide, will see her struggle and want to help her provide for her children.

The Hamdan family is strong, resilient, and precious. They deserve life. As a global community, we must recognize that no human being should suffer as the Palestinian people have been made to suffer. No child should be raised under a warplane.

How your donation will be used:

Reham needs food, water, milk, diapers, medicine and basic sanitary products which, with the destruction and prevention of humanitarian aid by Israeli soldiers and citizens alike, has made a set of diapers cost as much as $70USD. Even the smallest of donations will help her provide these necessities of life. The girls desperately needed new warm clothes to deal with the winter weather and donors helped provide this. Reham's gratitude was enormous.

With the pressure to reopen the Rafah Crossing, Reham foresees the eventual evacuation from Rafah of the following family members: Sidra, 18 months old, Sila, 5 years old, Reham, 31 years old, Firas, 34 years old, Taghreed, 54 years old.

Please help this beautiful family survive the genocide. Sidra and Sila deserve a secure and safe future. Like every single child does.

I have stood by Reham for nearly two years, through the unimaginable. And while the nature of my help has to change, I will still be here for her, utilizing my voice and my skills to provide her with agency and support. Over the course of my time doing this work, I have made connections between mothers all over the world standing up and saying the same thing: not on our watch. No child shall starve. No child shall be shot or left without medical care. No mother should have to worry whether her family will eat, where they will sleep, if they will die.

Though I am no longer able to continue hosting Reham’s gofundme, there is no better place to entrust the continuation of her direct aid than in the arms of mothers. I have deep faith that Joce, Emma, myself and every nurturing soul who has kept this precious family protected from afar will continue doing this work with intention and love.
