The Hair Project is a non-profit initiative that provides free haircuts to shelters in the city of Montreal. We recently received a significant donation from the Social Services students of Dawson College but unfortunately, because of the pandemic, we won't be visiting shelters any time soon. We wanted to see that money circulate within local artists and businesses, as well as among our community. So we decided to purchase prizes locally and donate the funds to DESTA - Black Youth Network- DESTA was founded in 2006 with a mandate to focus on the employability needs of Black youth in Little Burgundy. An integrated strategy was adopted to address both systemic and personal barriers to employment, such as justice involvement, housing, and lack of resources.

Recognizing the economic needs of participants, DESTA’s mission was redefined in 2017 to center on education, employability, and entrepreneurship. Our hopes: We make the $300 back for the money we spent on prizes, and donate all the rest to DESTA. We use the $300 to hold another fundraiser for another local organization by buying prizes from local businesses. 

If we do not reach over $300, all money will be donated to DESTA
