This year, my friend and I are raising money for The Haemophilia Society, a charity that is incredibly important to our family.

Last year, I completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and was amazed to raise over £1,000. This year, we’ll be climbing Helvellyn via Striding Edge.

Our reason for doing this is my three year old son, who has Severe Haemophilia A.

I am a member of The Haemophilia Society and have experienced first hand the support they provide to families like mine. Around two years ago, they invited me, my partner and son to one of their Newly Diagnosed Weekends, which gave us the opportunity to learn more, meet other families in similar situations and feel supported at a time when everything was still very new to us.

That is why this charity means so much to my family.

The Haemophilia Society supports people living with bleeding disorders and their families, while also helping to improve understanding and access to care. They also support work that helps improve treatment and the future for people living with haemophilia.

Before the treatments available today, haemophilia could have a devastating impact on both quality of life and life expectancy. Thanks to modern medicine, my son has opportunities that previous generations with severe haemophilia simply did not have.

We give him preventative treatment by injection every two weeks. While haemophilia will always be part of his life, his treatment gives him much greater protection from bleeding and allows him to run around, play, explore and hopefully grow up enjoying a full and active life.

We are incredibly grateful for the treatment and support available to him, and we want to give something back to a charity that has already helped our family and continues to support families just like ours.

Any donation, no matter how big or small, would mean a huge amount to us and will help The Haemophilia Society continue the important work they do.
