The Grouse Grind is a 2.9-km (1.8-mile) ascent, with an elevation gain of 853 metres (2,800 feet).
What is the The Grind for adaptive boxing?
It’s a fundraiser supporting the Westcoast Wheelchair Adapted Boxing and Fitness Association, and Inner Hope charity.
Inner Hope Mission https://www.innerhope.ca
" Our mission is to walk alongside youth and families in East Vancouver nurturing hope, belonging and transformation through:
Support, discipleship, life skills and housing"
The WWAB was founded by Leo Sammarelli in 2019. The up and coming boxing phenom lost everything after a tragic accident in 2017 resulting in paralysis.
Leo could have given up and accepted the news of doctors, prescribing him a life of appointments, medial checks and lifestyle paralysis. Instead Leo pushed himself through intensive personal and psychological rehab which eventually lead him to create the WWAB.
Currently, Leo is paying for equipment and rehab space out of pocket while giving discounted classes to those looking to enhancing their confidence and perusing their goals in the wake of a life changing event.
The Association allows Leo to use his boxing pedigree and work with online classes as well as 1 on 1 sessions to help other disabled people achieve not just their physical goals, but their lifetime and mental health aspirations for a brighter tomorrow.
Your generous contributions go towards continuing adaptive boxing awareness, seminars and providing equipment, facilities and space to host the program for Vancouver’s disabled.
Please help support Leo and the WWAB as he attempts to wheelbarrow walk up the Grouse Grind with help from his team who will be holding his feet. Your support will be helping Leo and many others who are benefiting from his amazing program.
As far as we can tell, this will be the first attempt at a wheelbarrow walk up the Grind. To add, appropriate measures, precautions and training have been coordinated to help assist Leo and his assent up the Grind.
