The Great SGV Take-Out Weekend
The Great SGV Take-Out Weekend: Donating Food From Local Restaurants To Local Hospitals
The aim of this fundraiser is to provide restaurant quality, pre-packaged take home meals and drinks for healthcare workers at Garfield Medical Center . We've teamed up with select local restaurants to raise funds for this event and individuals can also donate directly to this GoFundMe.
Participating Restaurants
• Rose City Pizza
• Labobatory
• Newport Seafood
• Nabemono Shabu Shabu
• Munchkins Donuts
• Beard Papas
• Cloverleaf Coffee & Bakery
• Bone Kettle
• B Nutritious
Once this GoFundMe closes on May 13th, we will use the funds to purchase meals from a few of these participating restaurants who have generously agreed to provide meals at-cost. For example, Rose City Pizza will be providing pizza slices at cost, Labobatory will be making milk tea at-cost, Newport Seafood will provide kung-pao chicken at-cost, etc. Grace Shen will also donate face shields for the healthcare workers during our delivery on May 16th!
How The Fundraiser Will Work
The Great SGV Take-Out Weekend is currently scheduled to happen on the weekend of May 9th - May 10th. The fundraiser and event will occur in 3 parts:
• Order take-out (not delivery) from participating restaurants and those restaurants will donate 10% of restaurant profits (from 5/9/2020 - 5/10/2020) to this GoFundMe. Individuals can also donate to this GoFundMe. Since a lot of delivery apps take a 20-30% cut from delivery orders, we wanted to encourage people to order take-out / pick-up as part of the fundraiser.
• The proceeds from this GoFundMe will be used to purchase meals at-cost from select local restaurants. Every dollar makes a difference for our healthcare heroes!
• Our team will select a local SGV hospital to support and we will deliver the meals on the weekend of May 16th.
Why We're Fundraising
This idea started back in April after the Safer at Home orders first took effect. As a team of SGV natives serving the greater Los Angeles area, we had a chance to speak with several local restaurant owners and their experiences after COVID-19 began to affect their businesses. After hearing from a few local mom & pop restaurants that business has been down around 75%, we decided to create a Facebook Group where we could bring awareness to the restaurants in need in the San Gabriel Valley. As a result of the Facebook Group we created, we’ve seen a great amount of support from the community and restaurant owners during this pandemic.
Now we'd like to combine those efforts with helping those who are working the medical front lines.
Many of our healthcare heroes are working very long hours with few breaks for meals and snacks. In addition, most food service options for medical staff are limited after they’ve finished a late night shift or they have very limited options in the cafeteria. This is where we would love to help and hope to get your help too! Our plan is to sponsor Garfield Medical Center in the San Gabriel Valley and provide hospital staff with ready made meals that they can eat at the hospital or take home to enjoy.
We believe this embodies the mission of the SGV Open Restaurants Group on Facebook and takes it to the next level: Restaurant supporters get to order food for a good cause, restaurant owners get more take out business to help during these difficult times, and medical frontliners get pre-made restaurant quality meals!

Let’s Make A Difference Together!
Healthcare heroes are the men and women dedicating their time and risking their lives to serving patients who may be in critical condition and battling COVID-19. These essential workers are facing some of the most stressful times of their lives during this pandemic. Many hospital staff work long 12+ hour shifts which means that when it's time for them to go home, restaurants may be closed, grocery stores could be out of supplies or they are simply too tired to cook.
With this fundraiser, we hope to give our local heroes a well-deserved night to relax with a pre-made meal and continue our mission of supporting our local restaurants.
If you would like to help in a future event or would like to contribute items to this cause, please reach out to us at [email editado] to see how else we can collaborate together to help our healthcare heroes. If you would like to see how you can support other restaurants in the SGV community that are not part of this fundraiser, please visit our Facebook Group or check out our website !
Let’s get through this together as a community, SGV!
