The Gift of Nutrition 2023

Every year in December we collect donations for the children's center Niños de Jesús in the Dominican Republic. With your donations we buy food to support the children and their families during Christmas. Every donation makes a difference!

About the Niños de Jesús Children's Center

We have been raising funds and supporting the center for more than 10 years. This center is a non-profit institution established in 1990 by the Sisterhood of Mary of Schoenstatt. The center feeds and takes care of around 120 children. Its main purpose is to offer health, hygiene, education and nutritional services to malnourished children (ages 0-5 years) of the impoverished community of La Victoria, north of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Why we need your support

During Christmas the center will not be able to distribute food among the children. Since most of the children’s families do not have enough to eat, the children come back from break thinner and with their immune system weakened. With your donations we (1) provide the children and their families with food and (2) fill up the center’s Milk Bank for the upcoming year. The Gift of Nutrition Team delivers all food donations directly to the center.

What is the impact?

Malnourished children experience developmental delays, weight-loss and illness as a result of inadequate intake of protein, calories and other nutrients. Malnourishment can greatly compromise a child’s immune system, making them more susceptible to infectious diseases. It not only impacts growth in the short term but can also limit total bone growth. Malnutrition negatively effects brain development, causing delays in motor and cognitive development.
