Join us in supporting the New Ross Community Hospital this Christmas!
The story of the Gusserane Handball Alley is from its beginning, one that is based wholly on community support and endeavour. From its beginning in 1976 until now, it has been built and maintained by the community, for the community, through the generosity of the community.
Nowhere have we seen that than most recently with our recent renovation of the alley where the community came out in force to again support us.
But now we believe that it is our turn to repay some of that generosity to the community that supported us, by ourselves supporting another local community focused facility that is The New Ross Community Hospital.
Originally closed by the Health Board in 1987, the Hospital was re-opened again through the determination of local volunteers and charitable donations from the local community. Today, the hospital still receives no government funding and survives by reinvesting any money it makes and any charitable donations it receives, straight back into the running of the hospital. You can read more about this story by clicking on the following link. https://www.nrch.ie/about-us/
The Hospital continues to be an invaluable local resource to this day and its “For the Community – By the Community” principles was something that the members of the Gusserane Handball & Racquetball club identified with, as it reflects our own origins also. It is this reason that our members voted strongly in favour of choosing The New Ross Community Hospital as the beneficiary of all funds raised from our "24 in 24" fundraiser.
The goal is to play 24 continuous matches of Racquetball for 24 hours starting on Thursday the 28th of December at 19:00 and continuing until 19:00 on Friday the 29th of December.
We will be raising money by charging an entry fee for the 48 teams taking part, and also through this GoFundMe page for those who wish to add their support to our fundraising efforts.
Every penny raised will go directly to the New Ross Community Hospital and any fee deducted by GoFundMe for the use of this service will be reinstated by the club committee to ensure that commitment is fully met.
The Alley will be open for the whole of this period and we encourage visitors at any time in that period to support the participants or just to have a look at what can only be described as some of the finest specimens in the local sport & fitness community playing Racquetball!
We look forward to seeing you and thank you for your support.
