In order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Furzedown Project we have formed the Furzedown Flippers, an inspirational swimming team, to raise funds to help support the running of The Furzedown Project for the next 50 years!
The Furzedown Flippers will be taking the plunge and swimming 50 miles collectively in 50 days!
The Furzedown Project is a charity providing opportunities for older people to connect, contribute and be active. Activities range from falls prevention exercise to Zumba and walking groups, singing, film clubs, IT sessions, art, a radio group, trips out, gardening and lots more. We offer transport and home visiting to ensure inclusion of people with mobility challenges and aim to tackle social isolation and improve wellbeing for all. We are based in Furzedown, SW London and have members from across Wandsworth and neighbouring boroughs.
The Furzedown Flippers consists of 14 members and friends of the Furzedown Project, aged from 29 to 94 (yes, that's right, 94!). The Flippers are Matty, Graham, Moira, Debbie, Eloise, Su, Aimee, Jade, Vito, Jean-Marc, Tim, Sarah, Julia and Martine.
With a range of swimming ability from 'I can do a length ok' to 'Well, I have a splash to cool down when I’m on holiday', the Flippers have 50 consecutive days, starting on 12 May, to collectively swim 50 miles.
It would be wonderful if you could sponsor the Furzedown Flippers and help them raise as much money as possible for this vital service.
Older people going places.
Thank you
