Three years ago, I began this journey to do something meaningful. I’ve been growing my hair since May 2023 with one goal in mind, to donate it once it was long enough to make an impact.
What I didn’t anticipate… how long it would actually take (my initial guess was 2 years), how long it really needs to be (they say 8–12” but 12”+ is always preferred), and how much both myself and my wife would love my long hair (sorry Sabrina).
The time has come. The flow is going, its time to face the scissors.
I’ll be donating 12” of my homegrown hair to Hair We Share, an organization that provides free, real-hair wigs to children and adults experiencing medical hair loss.
Through both my work and personal life, I’ve seen how much something like this can matter. Along the way, many people have shared their own experiences, either personally or through someone close to them, and what it meant to have access to a quality wig. Hair loss isn’t just physical, it impacts confidence, identity, and everyday life, often during one of the most difficult seasons someone can face.
What most people (including me) don’t realize is that donating hair is just one piece of the puzzle. Each wig takes multiple ponytail donations, 50+ hours of work, and about $150 per ponytail just to process.
So along with my hair, I wanted to create an opportunity for others to be part of this. I will be donating the initial $150 to get things started and to help cover the cost of turning my hair into a finished wig for someone who needs it.
If this cause means something to you, or you’ve seen its impact firsthand, I’d love for you to join me. Every dollar raised will go directly to Hair We Share to help provide wigs at no cost to those going through a tough season.
Thanks for supporting and for helping make this haircut a little more meaningful as I send these luscious locks on to their next adventure.
