The love, the fall, the loss - to help with lawyer fees

Charlotte and Mike met on Salt Spring Island in 2019. They fell instantly in love and moved in together six months later, planning a life together. Mike, a master carpenter, was building what was to be their dream home, while Charlotte, a teacher, taught French immersion at the local school and supported him as he built.
On September 11th, 2023, their world shattered. Mike fell 30 ft from the roof of their future home, sustaining a life-altering brain injury. He spent nearly a month in a coma and 9 ½ months in the hospital.
Charlotte visited him every day while living in Airbnb's with their two cats and two dogs. She received no support from his family, facing anger and resentment instead. However, supported by friends, Charlotte never gave up, even when told that Mike might have to live in a group home and require 24/7 support. When Mike was released, he was released to his mother’s house as the supports he needed did not exist on Saltspring. Charlotte left their island forever to be close to him and support him, only to be told she could only visit a few hours a week by his mother. Charlotte visited every single chance she got, even while working full time as a teacher, now in Saanich.
Though Mike will never be the same again, he has relearned to walk, talk, and with Charlotte’s undying support; to read. Their love has evolved as Mike has been deemed no longer make his own decisions, and his short-term memory and mental capacity were greatly affected. Charlotte has applied to be his guardian and moved to the Saanich Peninsula to be close to Mike and support him. She is awaiting a court date, hopefully by May.
In March 2025, 17 months after Mike’s fall, Mike’s mother stopped all contact between Mike and Charlotte, making up lies to justify these actions. Charlotte is going to fight this in court. Though no longer considered his spouse, she fights to be his caregiver as she considers him to be her family. Mike still loves Charlotte, and her removal from his life, the loss of her love and support, will certainly be to his detriment.
Please consider donating to help support Charlotte’s legal fees to fight to be Mike’s caregiver. If you know her or Mike, you know how much they meant and mean to each other. If you don’t know them, just know that theirs was a true love story, and their love continues, though changed forever by the tragedy of Mike’s accident.
With your support, their love and commitment can triumph over this challenge. Please help Charlotte fight to care for the person that she loves always, brain injury or no. These two are soul mates and belong together.
Alongside the fight for their relationship, Charlotte also has to fight for her share of their assets and property. Charlotte is facing much loss alone and is in need of this support to reset and figure out a new life going forward. This form of support would go a long way and every bit is helpful. This tragedy shouldn’t be tearing people apart but rather brining people together instead. Let us please show Charlotte that she isn’t alone. With appreciation and gratitude we thank you.
