Are you tired of looking at the ugly crumbling blacktop in front of Dows Lane? So are we.
A group of Dows Lane parents have come up with a plan.
The plan is to skim-coat asphalt on top of the existing blacktop to make the entrance to the school look more appealing. This is a temporary solution for sure, but we think it's a good one.
There is proposed funding from the district bond to address the major drainage issues that continually cause flooding, and to do a comprehensive repair of the blacktop. However, that work isn't slated to begin for another two years.
Additionally, a skim-coat will allow the Peaceful Playground stencils that were purchased last year to be painted on, creating a fun and interactive space for our kids. Planters and benches will also be added. And, since they are stencils, they can be used again after the permanent improvements are complete.
The rendering you see was a Site Base committee project. For months, DL staff and parents have been working hard to figure out the best use of this space. A DL family that own an architectural firm contributed their time and experience to make these renderings. We hope to display them at Dows Lane so everyone can see what the space will eventually look like.
We realize there are a lot of asks this time of year, and we wouldn't be doing this if there was another way to obtain the money needed. We are hoping to get the skim-coat done before the end of this school year.
Please consider donating if you’d like to see a quick, simple fix that will make a BIG difference to our students.
If you have questions, please email either Lauren at [email redacted] or Alice at [email redacted]
THANKS SO MUCH!!!
