Want to join me in making a difference? The Dopamine Divide Expedition: Nikki Murphy’s Ireland Way
The Story:
My name is Nikki Murphy. I am 51 years old, and right now, I am out on the trails tackling The Ireland Way—a grueling cross-country trek from the south to the north of Ireland. I call this The Dopamine Divide Expedition because every single mile represents a raw, personal battle against a system that leaves women and vulnerable people completely in the dark.
I am a late-diagnosis ADHDer and a menopausal woman. For years, I struggled heavily with the menopause, completely lost and exhausted, because of medical misdiagnosis. Our healthcare system treats women's health like a footnote, refusing to see that when it comes to the menopause, one size does not fit all. I am hiking this trail to shatter that silence and force real awareness for menopausal women who are being ignored and misdirected by the system.
But the battle doesn't stop at women's health. I am also using every single kilometer of this trek to campaign heavily for #KelvinsAmendment to be officially written into the Mental Health Act 2026.
Right now, our system is broken. If someone is struggling with both mental health issues and addiction, they get doors slammed in their faces. They are passed from pillar to post because services refuse to work together. It’s a deadly gap, and Kelvin’s Amendment demands that dual diagnosis is legally recognized so people finally get the joint treatment they drastically need.
If you’ve been following my journey on Instagram (@DubMa_On_A_Mission), you know I’m keeping it 100% real. Just the other day, my ADHD brain kicked in, I got turned around for two hours, and ended up doing a brutal 30km in intense heat. I crawled into Ballyvourney dehydrated and with my feet in absolute bits. Right now, "Blisterina" here is taking a quick rest day in Killarney to patch up my feet at the chemist, soak my muscles, and get ready to push forward tomorrow.
My blisters will heal, but the damage being done to people by our health system won't change unless we make serious noise.
