House fire. Please help the D’Angelo family

My name is Claudia. I’m making this go fund me with the hopes of raising some funds for my elderly aunt and uncle, my cousins along with their young children.

Sadly, their home was destroyed in a devastating fire in Sicily on Friday January 19th.Just like any other day my little cousin Giuseppe parks his car in his garage and goes inside his home to go to sleep for the night. At 2:00 am he was awakened by a nightmare-the smell of smoke. He quickly opened the door only to find dark heavy smoke coming up the stairs from the four story home where his grandparents, mom and two uncles along with their wives and children lived. He was bravely able to get everyone safely out of the home just in time. My aunt, uncle and cousins, who are like my second family, live in a small town in Sicily called Santo Stefano Quisquina. The closest fire station is over an hour away, by that time the home of multiple families were destroyed. The fire had started spontaneously by Giuseppes car caused by a short circuit after being parked for many hours. Both his uncles vehicles were also destroyed in the fire along with thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from my cousin Domenico’s clothing boutique.

Now they face repairs to all four apartments and it will take time and resources that they don’t have. Unfortunately home insurance isn’t common there and so all damages will have to be paid out of pocket.

My heart is broken for them because they now find themselves in a very difficult financial situation and will not be able to afford the extensive work needed to make the home safe to enter.

My aunt and uncle are elderly with many health problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated more than you could imagine. With your help they will be able to start the construction necessary to enter their home again and put this nightmare to rest..
