After meeting on the Bernie Sanders Campaign, and as the crisis with Covid expanded a group of full-time grassroots organizers and volunteers have decided to live together as a pod and impact the community directly- reaching out to the most vulnerable - our un-housed and housing-insecure neighbors in Los Angeles County.
The Dandelion Collective is a diverse group of organizers and activists who are working to empower the many, not the few. We stand in solidarity with progressive unions, organizations, and individuals. Through the power of community, our efforts focus on connecting neighbor to neighbor and to those in need with those who can give. Our vision is to build a sustainable future where every person has their basic needs met and can live without fear or dependence on unjust systems.
In under 2 weeks in the house we have cooked and delivered over 200 meals to un-housed neighbors in Hollywood, Highland Park, and Venice. We have volunteered 20+ shifts at The Shower of Hope (which gives showers to un-housed folks in the community), and participated in multiple direct actions at illegal evictions, the Mayor's Mansion, and City Hall to do our part in preventing a further escalation of the housing crisis. We are also volunteering at local food banking projects: Urban Partners Los Angeles and Long Beach Community Table. And working on a supply drop to Indigenous Relatives on the Navajo Nation. We are doing everything we can to help others during the crisis, and pooling our resources to do so.
We are raising funds to expand our outreach programs as well as provide for supplemental housing costs, as we had to leave our current housing situations to protect our room-mates and families from any additional risk the project is taking on. We keep a strict protocol of PPE and sanitation procedures to protect ourselves and those we are serving from the virus.
