The Cory fund

Hi, we are the Nelson family and we are here to ask for help concerning our brother, Cory. For those of you who have known our family for years and who were lucky enough to know Cory pre addiction, you know Cory to be a loving and selfless person. He is funny, kind, smart, and one of the most giving people!

For the better part of the last 15 years, Cory has suffered with drug and opioid addiction due to self medication. In recent years, he has been living in Uganda, Africa and has continued to struggle with addiction there. His health has been in a massive decline and MANY times in the last year been hospitalized due to this, nearer to death with every single hospitalization. In the last few weeks, he had agreed to come home to receive the medical attention that he needs and to be around family but no sooner had he agreed to that, he was a passenger in a severe vehicular accident and is currently hospitalized and in critical condition due to this accident.

Some people may say that drug addiction is a choice and if you feel this way, I envy the fact that you do not understand this disease. Unfortunately, we have experienced firsthand the effects of this disease that causes tremendous pain and fear not only for him, but for our entire family.

I can no longer sit here and just watch not only his mental health, but his physical health continually decline.

We need help to pay his medical bills and get him home to better healthcare.

For those who don’t know, Uganda is much different than it is in the US and my family has footed the bill for his medical procedures time and again because there, they will not give you care unless you pay upfront. We need to get him home to healthcare that is not this way. His recent accident has only accelerated a plan that was already in place but unfortunately, the luxury of time is no longer on our side.

We are asking for help because we can no longer financially handle this alone and anything you can give to help would be greatly appreciated!

Again, Cory is currently in ICU and this post is meant to do good, not harm to him. I know it can be hard to understand but please respect our family by giving Cory space to heal and protecting the dignity that he still has left.
