What compels someone to give? You believe in the cause. In our case, you admire the work of the volunteers. But, maybe it’s not your “jam” to pick up 1/2 empty liquor bottles, cans with expired food leaking out yuck, couches and stoves and hot water heaters imbedded into the landscape for decades, along with bags containing used diapers.
In 12 weeks, we’ve pretty much seen it all. “We” are currently 15-20 citizens of the area - working every Sunday since January 22 to clean up our streets, fields and waterways from trash and to thwart illegal dumping. Heck, we’ve pulled out over 100 tires adjacent to the Moodna Creek which feeds into the Hudson River. Hazardous waste has also been removed: paint cans, antifreeze and oil containers.
We are always seeking volunteers, but here we are seeking monetary help to purchase safety apparel, safety signs and equipment, bug spray, garbage bags, and ways to get our message across to the local community and beyond. We have over 135 members of our public Cornwall Cleanup Crew FB group. We’ve also received 100s of positive messages on our local town group site. Please think about turning that “like” into a donation. We are a dedicated group in it for the long haul to clean up our town.
If you are tired of seeing litter and want to improve the appearance and health of your community, we encourage you to “do something about it.” Please help us. We are making a difference.
