YDHR Bankruptcy Leaves Children Unpaid
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Alysa and I am one of the many small businesses and families left unpaid in the wake of York-Durham Heritage Railway’s bankruptcy. As hard as it has been for many of us to remain unpaid for events already worked, my heart really goes out to the many children and students that worked so hard for YDHR. For most, this was their first experience working, and they were so excited to have contracts and agreements in place and to be able to earn some money for Christmas. Now they are left disappointed and disillusioned after being informed they won’t be getting paid, despite all their hard work and dedication (these kids gave it their all).
Worse still, many of them are not even listed on the bankruptcy list because they were supposed to be paid via honorariums. This leaves them with little recourse to attempt to recover even a portion of what they were promised. They weren’t even listed on the list of creditors in the bankruptcy notification.
I’ve started this GoFundMe to try and help restore their belief in the value of hard work by attempting to recoup the money for the children that worked so hard on those trains. The community of Uxbridge has been extremely supportive of all of those struggling in the aftermath, and this would be a great way to give back to the younger community that performed their hearts out and certainly do not deserve this outcome.
I hope that you’ll consider helping to rectify an unfair situation for these students. Should there end up being a surplus raised, I would distribute those funds to help the long list of small and local businesses that are now in financial hardship due to unpaid contracts resulting from YDHR’s bankruptcy.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity in helping these hardworking children.
Sincerely,
Alysa King
