The Girl Scout Playground Project of Cherry Valley is an idea that we, Bailey Thayer and Zola Palmer, came up with for our service project, as we work towards earning our Bronze Award.
The Bronze Award is the highest award that a Girl Scout Junior can earn. More info on the Bronze Award
We started by brainstorming ideas for our service project to make a difference in our community. We want to make our town more interesting for families, so that more of them would come and support the local businesses. Eventually we settled on the idea of making our playground better, by adding more equipment to the existing playground. We hope to be able to add a handicap accessible swing and a ninja course, and maybe some other equipment too. We want to help our community members stay active, fit and healthy, and we want to provide an area for the handicapped children in our area to play as well.
We are currently researching costs and grants for equipment.
We are also meeting with the village board to talk about the existing space, and what areas might be available to build on.
We have had two fundraisers so far, selling hot cocoa and mulled cider, and earned $250.
We feel so proud that one day we will have created part of the playground kids will be playing on. It can show other kids that if they believe in themselves they can do anything.
We would really appreciate it if you made a donation and took a moment to fill out our survey. This will help us show the Village Board that we have community support and interest in this project.
