“Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.”
Isaiah 1:17 NIV
Hello friends and family!
As some of you know, The Browns moved to Austin, TX in June of 2018. We are helping with a new church called The Beat Church, along with some great friends & leaders. We get to serve in a few different areas of ministry as the church grows, and we get the whole family settled here. Life has been busy, and we have have been running full steam ahead. One thing we have learned though, and are still learning, is that our family is our most important ministry.
That brings us to an exciting new area of serving and ministry that we believe God is leading us as a family. We are going through the process of becoming FOSTER parents in TEXAS. We have 3 amazing kids of our own, but want to add more to our home. Our kids have reached the age level where things have gotten much easier. I have been enjoying it quite a bit. Especially with the season we have been in. But our hearts have been leaning towards more kids, and especially kids who don’t have homes. There are over 30,000 FOSTER children in the State of Texas, and many of them never make it into a home. And let’s be honest, not every home is a safe and loving environment for them. WE CAN BE A PART OF THE SOLUTION! We want to invest into more children, and help make lasting change in their lives. Even though we may have a child for as short as 3-6 months at times, we can still make a lasting impact in their lives. We want to leave a legacy for as many as possible.
That lead us to creating a Go Fund Me page. Some may ask why? Doesn’t the State pay you to house any children you foster? Yes they do. But it is a minimal amount monthly. Trust me, you do not get into FOSTER care for the monthly income. Especially when you’re not doing a group home. We are asking for a few things as we start this adventure:
1) FINANCES: The process of becoming a Foster Parent requires quite a few out of pocket expenses. There are classes, fire dept. tests, hire plumbers to do gas leak tests, CPR courses,
specific medical tests required for the State of Texas, and a few more out of pocket expenses. These are things the State does not cover (some you pay upfront, and reimburse later). It will also help us purchase infant items we no longer have, as our kids our older now. Crib, gates, car seats, etc. We can stockpile on diapers, formula, and even clothes for baby/toddler age children. Many of these kids will come to your home in emergency situations, and sometimes just have the clothes on their back, and maybe a small sack of belongings.
2) PRAYER: This should be number 1, but you knew Money was coming at some point, so I put it first. But seriously, most of these kids are coming out of trauma situations. At the very least major dysfunction. It takes more than state testing to know how to raise, and handle some of the kids we will get placed with. But that’s exciting! We want to be able to help them! But it will take prayer.....From ALL OF US!
3) WISDOM/STORIES: Some of you may known nothing about the FOSTER care system, while some of you are very familiar with it. Some of you may have had positive, or negative experiences with the FOSTER system, or someone you knew from the system. We would love to hear your stories, your testimonies, your wisdom. They say it takes a village to raise a child. The advice and encouragement of friends and family is part of that.
We will be sharing updates of this amazing journey all along the way!
