To know Tim and Lindsey Brach means you've experienced the magnetic energy they possess. They are the type of people that just can't help but make those around them fall in love. As parents, that love has only grown exponentially, even in spite of unimaginable loss and heartbreak.

This past month they experienced a completely unexpected tragedy with the loss of their brave and courageous one-month old, Dean Charles Brach. Dean came into the world the picture of perfection. It was only after he was a few days old that things began to change. Over the next several weeks, Dean and his parents endured an emotional battle that ultimately took Dean's most precious life.

This is not the Brach's only devastating loss. Three years ago, their precious baby girl, Stella, was also tragically taken from them. Something no parent should ever have to endure, let alone twice.

With the help of Dean’s medical team at Lurie, they were able to finally determine with the help of Stella & Dean’s DNA that they were both born with an extremely rare and fatal mitochondrial disease.  This cruel disease can effect one or all of the organs in the body. In Dean’s case, despite being born perfectly healthy, it eventually effected everything. The heart suffers dearly from this disease, as it can’t produce enough energy so it enlarges, becoming less efficient and eventually unable to sustain life.

Throughout everything, Tim and Lindsey have shown everyone around them what true, unwavering love looks like. Both Dean and Stella are forever loved and missed and their parents are here to carry on their legacy.

What can we do for them when we can't give them what they want most?

We can do several things, for now:

1. Give with your heart. This allows them additional time and space to grieve and mourn. It also assists with mounting medical bills and any other unforeseeable costs.

2. Remember and celebrate Dean and Stella Brach. Say their names. Talk to Tim and Lindsey about them. This isn’t a taboo subject, these are their children. Their stories and legacies are sacred to them and should be acknowledged.

On behalf of the Brach family thank you, in advance, for your support during this time.
