For the Future of Young Boys in South Africa's Townships

Hi everyone, I’m reaching out to ask for your support for a cause that truly matters. I’m fundraising for the Lugongolo Foundation—an inspiring, community-rooted NGO based in Philippi, Cape Town, South Africa.

The Lugongolo Foundation is doing deeply meaningful work in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV) by filling a gap that too often goes unnoticed: engaging boys and men. In a world where male vulnerability is often ignored, they’re creating safe spaces for boys to access mental health support, unlearn harmful gender norms, and receive the mentorship they so often lack—especially in environments where positive male role models are few and far between.

This September 2025, the foundation is planning to host a life-changing Boys Camp. It will bring together boys from under-resourced communities across Cape Town—neighbourhoods where violence, poverty, and gang culture are part of daily life.

For many of these boys, it will be the first time they’ve stepped outside of that environment. The camp offers them the chance to simply be kids—to play, to reflect, to connect, and to imagine a future that looks different from what they've always known.

It’s more than a camp—it’s a powerful act of prevention. It’s about planting seeds of hope early, before the world teaches them to shut down, to toughen up, or to repeat the patterns they see around them. It’s about showing them they matter—and that there is another way.

But as a small and growing organisation, the Lugongolo Foundation currently lacks the stable funding to make this camp a reality. That’s where we come in.

With your help, we can make this happen. Every contribution—no matter the size—helps create a space where boys can feel seen, supported, and inspired.

Where your donation goes:
All funds will be transferred directly to Rev. Lugongolo and used to cover essential costs such as venue rental, meals, supplies, materials, and fair compensation for staff and facilitators. Every cent is a step closer to creating something unforgettable for these boys.

Why I’m personally involved
Being based in Europe, I’m fortunate to have broader access to networks and online platforms—so I’m using that privilege to amplify this cause.

I met Rev. Lugongolo during my internship in Cape Town, and his passion moved me. His commitment to uplifting boys and men from underserved communities—to break the cycles of pain and violence—is something I deeply respect and believe in.

As someone who cares deeply about the health and well-being of boys and men—and who knows how overlooked this issue still is in many gender justice conversations—I feel called to do what I can to support this work.

If you have any questions, or would like to connect, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Let’s make this Boys Camp happen—together.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting.
